Thomas F. Carey

August 30, 1916 ~ April 20, 2017 (age 100) 100 Years Old

Thomas (Tom) Carey, age 100 years 7 months, passed away April 20, 2017 in Colorado.  He was born August 30, 1916 in Ansonia and raised in Derby.  Tom is survived by his wife Frances of Colorado; his brother James of Ansonia; his 2 daughters, Nancy (Dr. David) Weiss of Colorado and Patricia Carey (Raymond Schwartz) of Arizona; his 5 grandchildren, Jason and Justin Millard of Arizona, Travis (Abbey) Winter, Beth (Nathan) Federico and Katie Weiss all of Colorado; 3 great grandchildren, Hunter, Ahvah, and Lucy of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.  Tom is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Carey; brothers, John, Jeremiah, and William; his sister, Ann Ryall Walsh; daughter, Frances Mary, and grandson, Michael Weiss.  Tom was a resident of Aurora, Colorado for 26 years.  He was married to his beloved wife of 68 years.  Tom was a wonderful man who loved his family and served his God faithfully.  He was an active member of St. Mary the Immaculate Conception of Derby and was also a member of Queen of Peace Church in Aurora, Colorado and a life time member of the Knights of Columbus #28 in Connecticut.  Tom was a proud veteran of the Navy Seabees in WWII.  He enjoyed all sports and was a huge fan of both the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos.  Calling hours will be held Saturday April 29th from 8 AM to 9:30 AM in the James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, 92 Howe Ave., Shelton, CT.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM at St. Mary the Immaculate Conception, 212 Elizabeth St., Derby, CT.  Burial will Full Military Honors will follow in Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery, Derby, CT.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s honor to St. Mary the Immaculate Conception Church, 212 Elizabeth St., Derby, CT 06418 or to the charity of your choice.  To leave condolences or for directions, please visit www.tooheyfuneralhome.com
