John “Jack” Van Kamerik, Jr., age 70, of Oxford, CT, died peacefully on November 23, 2024 with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 26, 1954 in Niskayuna, NY and is the son of the late John and Irene Van Kamerik of Niskayuna. Jack graduated from Western New England University with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as a Staff Engineer at Textrom Lycoming spending several months at Rolls Royce, UK, developing the joint adventure TAY 670 gas turbine engine and received a US patent for a Gas Turbine Lubrication System Altitude Valve. He then continued his career working at both Pratt & Whitney and Sikorsky Aircraft until his retirement. He served 8 years as an elected official on the Town of Oxford’s Planning and Zoning Commission and was a member of the Oxford High School building committee. During his early years, he enjoyed being an active skier, along with being both an on and off road motorcyclist. He leaves behind his loving wife of 39 years, Bonny, his two sons Jonathan (JT) Van Kamerik and his fiancée Rebecca Orsini, and Christopher Van Kamerik, his sisters Sharon Lawrence and Linda Baquero, his sister-in-law Gale Cirillo and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 8:30AM to 10:30AM at the James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, 92 Howe Ave., Shelton. His procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30AM for a Mass Of Christian Burial at Church of the Good Shepherd (St. Nicholas Parish), 135 Mountain Rd., Seymour, at 11AM. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Shelton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack’s memory may be to a charity of one’s choice.
