Karen Cummings

 Karen Ann Coyne Cummings, age 70 of Stratford, passed away April 28, 2024.  She was born in Hartford, January 27, 1954, daughter of the late Robert and Harriet Walsh Coyne.  She graduated from the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing where she got her certification to be a Licensed Practical Nurse.  She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Bridgeport Hospital for many years until she had her daughter, Heather.  She also later worked at Macy’s Department Store in Trumbull for several years.  A religious woman, she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Peace Church, Stratford for many years and was also the recipient of the St. Augustine 2018 Medal of Service for her devotion to her parish.  She enjoyed traveling, especially to Maine, California, and most recently to Lourdes, France.  She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, plants, reading, and walking.  She is survived by her beloved husband, Mark Cummings, her daughter Heather Toohey (Edward, Jr.), her grandson Liam Toohey, her sister-in-law Judy Janik (Jack), her brother-in-law Edward Cummings, and many cousins and extended family.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her twin sister Kathy Coyne.  Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 2, from 4PM to 7 PM at the James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, 92 Howe Avenue, Shelton.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 3, at 10AM directly at Our Lady of Peace Church, 651 Stratford Road, Stratford.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Church Sanctuary Fund, 10 Ivy Street, Stratford, CT 06615.
