Robert D. Herlihy, age 93 of Shelton, passed away March 23, 2026. He was born in Hartford, August 28, 1932, son of the late Daniel and Dorothy Cohen Herlihy. He grew up in Hartford and graduated from Buckley High School and the University of Connecticut as part of the Officers Candidate School for the United States Marine Corps. Upon graduating from the Officers Candidate School at University of Connecticut, he was a commissioned officer as a Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He also received his master’s degree in education from Fairfield University. He worked for the Department of Defense for 40 years until his retirement from the Defense Department. He also retired as a full colonel from the United States Army. He is survived by his son Craig Herlihy, his daughter Kimberly Herlihy, his grandchildren Megan, Caitlin, Benjamin, Daniel, Robert, and Brandon, and 5 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife Dolores Herlihy. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 7PM to 9PM at the James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home, 92 Howe Ave., Shelton. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11:30AM at Mt. St. Peter’s Cemetery, Derby. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 807 Maine Ave. SW, Washington, DC 20024.
