William Bures, 72, of Norfolk, Connecticut, died peacefully at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital on July 21, 2020 after a short illness. He was the son of the late Lydia Menustik Bures and Emil W. Bures of Shelton. William grew up in Shelton graduating from St. Joseph's High School and Sacred Heart University. He was an avid basketball and baseball player. He enjoyed the outdoors and fishing. He loved driving through the countryside admiring farms and exploring rivers. He was a strong advocate for animal welfare and was instrumental in the campaign to "Save the Slab" that now includes the Shelton Riverwalk and Veteran's Memorial Park in Shelton.
Bill valued and remained connected throughout his life with a close group of his Shelton friends. He is survived by his sister Anne Bures Sikorski and his two nieces Kimberly and Kristi.
The James T. Toohey & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no calling hours and burial is private. Memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA.
